Watched Conan the Barbarian with my Mom and sister tonight. The newest one. Was awesome! There's so much action, all well done, but has more emotional depth to characters and relationships than often found in action movies. Jason Momoa is great at Barbarian characters, as was obvious from Game of Thrones, but I love him as Conan too. It doesn't hurt that he spends the entire movie shirtless with one exception for a disguise. Rachel Nichols did a very good damsel in distress who was vulnerable yet spunky and refuses to depend on the men around her.

Stephan Lang was excellent as Khalar Zym, proving that he plays a great warrior character, not limited to the side of good or bad. I enjoyed Ron Perlman as the Father of Conan, his performance being admirable. And Rose McGowan was probably my favorite to watch. Her performance was excellent, and I adored seeing her as a villain after watching her play the superhero witch in Charmed for so long.

All and all, I found no issues with the movie other than the occasional leap in logic that occurs in all movies and TV shows for that matter. Others may be wary of the violence, which there's a good deal of, and not all of it is clean or the nudity, which there's plenty of. Quite a few characters spend their times shirtless, not all of them male. That was one of the more shocking parts for me. For the most part, the rest of the movie qualifies for a PG-13 rating at first glance. The movie doesn't clearly set up for a sequal, though this is a remake of the first in a trilogy.

I'm actually torn on whether or not I want two more to be made. If sequals are the equal of the first in quality, they'll be worthwhile. Yet, this rather seems made to be a stand alone film. Can't wait to see what's decided, either way.
Happy readings!
Kate
